This cute 3 tiered cupcake standdidn't always look this cute, but after I shabby scrapped it, it is looking much cuter! Can't you just imagine it filled with cupcakes? (Sorry, I ate them all before I could take the photo. I think Kewpie had some too)  The pretty millinery flowers don't come with the stand, I am hording those from my Silver Bella Swap from Andrea~! It's My Birthday ~ Come Celebrate with Me!

Birthday

Today is my 35th Birthday! I wanted to share some special things today. I don't mind having birthdays ~ in fact I love them! It usually means I can indulge for a day, who doesn't like that? My mom and I are going antiquing and spending one night away from home, the break all us moms dream about...I have to say, I  LOVE my thirties! Way better than my twenties, or even teens. Some any things in my life have "matured" to a point where I am loving life. Ask me again when I hit my forties if I still feel the same, I reserve the right to change my mind! It's a woman's perogative!

I have a great project to share with you..... I have to admit that certain items in my stash I have been saving for quite some time now, hoping to put together a crown. I have been nervous to begin this project, because I had high expectations for myself, but I finally bit the bullet and took the plunge! Here is how it turned out!

Lodgepole whimsical whites silver trophy 166 copy

I actually finished this a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to wait unitl my birthday to show you all! I am very pleased with the way it turned out..

Lodgepole whimsical whites silver trophy 158 copy

I am not even sure where I got these gold birds, I think at a church sale, but I think they really add some pizazz to the crown.....

Lodgepole whimsical whites silver trophy 165 copy

Those are my intials, TK. I also added vintage rhinestone jewelery, an old clock face, and vintage wedding millinery.

Crown 007 copy

See the base of the crown? That's a part to an old 70's style lamp I tore apart. I bought it at Goodwill for a couple of bucks, and new exactly when I got it it would make the best crown base! My husband came home while I had his dremel with the grinder wheel out sawing off lamp parts. He scolded me because I wasn't wearing "protective eyewear" (Can you tell he had to go to a manager's safety class for work? Bet he was teacher's pet!) I always make hime nervous, he has nick named me "Danger Prone". I kinda like the nick name, it sounds like a comic book super hero! "Look, what's that up in the sky? A bird? A plane? No! It's DANGER PRONE!!"

Anyway, he has only called me that since the little cut through the extension cord incident........I don't want to talk about it......

Thank you all for sharing in my Birthday Bliss today! I raise my glass in toast to you all, and hope everyone else has a great birthday this year and those to come!

xoxoxo, Tiffany aka  "DANGER PRONE" !

Girls Day Out

Barn sale 017 copy

This last Saturday, I traveled down to the Portland area with these two sweeties, Tammy and Kathy, for a great Girls Day Out. Our main goal was to go to see the fabulous Barn House Boys and their Fall Harvest Sale. We hadn't been there since the Flea Market sale, and this was every bit as fun. A whole different vibe. This time the sale was held in their barn, all decked out for Fall. No detail was left undone, it was definitely inspiring for Fall.

They are master merchandisers, I told Joe he could have a job in NYC as a high paid merchandiser in a heartbeat! Just take a look at all this beauty....

Here was my love of the day, I purchased this shabby chippy old rocker for my bedroom, I just love it!

Before the Barn House Sale, we hit a vintage car and antiques flea market and found a bunch more goodies, and topped off the day with a trip to Montecello's Antiques and dinner at Red Robin. We had so many laughs and it was a great time. It is so good to have a girls day out once in a while! I can't wait for the next one! Maybe for the next Barn House Event, their Gothic Harvest sale!

Summer's Last Hoorah

Lodgepole whimsical whites silver trophy 075

It seems as though the last days of summer are upon us, and the crisp nights of fall have arrived. We spent one last weekend camping in the mountains, unplugged and tuned in to our family, seemingly only us in the world.

Lodgepole whimsical whites silver trophy 073

Lazy days spent relaxing by the river, campfire scent filling the air, nothing to do but be.

Lodgepole whimsical whites silver trophy 041

No TV, no computers, no electricity, no telephone, just a weekend to simplify........

Lodgepole whimsical whites silver trophy 050

Even the dog got some R and R!

Now I am ready to let the days of summer go and settle into fall and winter. Refreshed, renewed, revitalized.

Hope you, too, are enjoying the last days of summer!

Vintage Halloween Decor You Can Make!

Halloween iNspiration

Halloween is such a fun and kooky holiday that can be interpreted in many different ways. As most of you might expect, I prefer a vintage twist on my Halloween rather than very commercial items. I put together this Halloween inspiration board and am hanging it in my living room with some of my other vintage inspired Halloween decor. It is very easy to make and is mostly put together with non "holiday" items!

Firstly I found this great frame at a local Goodwill. It looks really rich and textural, but really it is cheesy 70's plastic. And it only cost $3.99. It originally came with a mirror inside. I removed the mirror and replaced it with a piece of sturdy cardboard. (Don't through away the mirror, you never know when you may need it for another project!) Next, I used a gel medium and ripped up sheet music and adhered it to the cardboard. While the paper is still wet with gel medium, I sprinkled vintage glass glitter all over it. Let your gel medium dry, and Voila! You have the bones (pardon the Halloween pun!) of your project!

Next is this vintage looking mask I made to go on the board.

vintage inspired halloween mask

I purchased the plain wood mask 2 for $3 at my local craft store. First I painted the entire mask black, and let it dry. Then I found some great vintage harlequin looking paper and used glue to adhere it to the front side of the mask, in a whole sheet. Once the glue had dried, I came back with an exacto knife and trimmed up the mask, so the paper fit nicely around. The feather accent on the mask is actually another piece of paper, I fussy cut out the pattern to make it look like feathers!

mask

Now for the glitter. I have one word for you....Stickles. If you don't know what I am talking about, do yourself a favor, and go to your local craft store, ask them where they keep their Stickles and then proceed to buy one of every color they have. It is a fantastic product. It is what I used to put the silver on the feather accent and to draw in these fun orange glitter eyelashes on my cat. I also used the orange to trace around the entire mask for a little bit of extra glam. The trick to using Stickles effectively is to always use it in one clean squeeze....what I mean by that is don't squeeze some out, let go and try to squeeze more. This is how you get air bubbles, and globby glitter. Nobody likes globby glitter! Use one steady ongoing squeeze, and it will turn out great! Oh, and NEvEr think you are doing yourself a favor by making the hole in the tip larger, just leave it be! Can you tell I have learned these life experiences the hard way? Finish off your mask by double knotting a wide piece of vintage satin ribbon around the stick and fray the ends to make it look old. Project two complete!

To give my Inspiration Board even more of a vintage Halloween feel, I put together a couple of different tags that can be hung on it. Here are a few samples...

Crown 176 copy

This way you can grab a few if you need to throw together a quick gift. Last but not least, grab all sorts of random items from your craft and ephemera stash that are in colors that will match or compliment your Halloween decor, and fill the board in with these items.

inspiration board

As you can see, I used items such as clock faces, button cards, bingo cards, and a "skeleton" key ( another Halloween pun, I am on a roll!) None of which are Halloween items, but all seem to work together. The best part is, after Halloween, you simply remove the mask and tags and you can change the board to suit whatever need or theme you have!

Hope this gave you a little more inspiration to get Halloween crafting!

Have a great day,

xoxo, Tiffany

Post Script ~ Hope you like and enjoy my new look for my blog. I put something together to feel a little more festive given the upcoming holiday!

I am Thinking it, But Dare I say it?

Pink spider copy

School Started Today!!!!

I am so happy!!!

I know I should miss my children terribly, I am sure eventually I will. But today, I am happy to have them back in school. Six hours of quiet before the chaos begins again. I know it will only take me a couple of days (ok, in all honesty, a couple of weeks or month) and I will be wishing the kids were out of school again. But for now, I think it is best for everyone for them to be where they are. They need a break from me, and I need a break from them. Educating our children is high priority, right? Don't get me wrong, we had a wonderful summer together, I throughly enjoyed it. However, I am a creature of habit, of structure, of schedules.....the lack of all things structured in summer is initially fun, but I long for fall!

I have some fun things to share today, firstly this amazing spider I came across yesterday while pruning my roses. Can you believe she is pink? This is either the coolest thing I have ever seen, or quite possibly the scariest thing, since it is probably some highly mutated hybrid monster spider that will destroy the human race. Let's just hope it's a pretty pink spider, ok?

Next, I have been busy participating in a couple of one on one swaps. I am really enjoying these! No pressured sign-up deadlines, themes you and your partner both come up with, and really getting to know someone. I met a great gal named Jodie after she left a comment on my blog about some romantic tags I had made, and out of that came a one on one romantic tag swap! Here is what I made for her....

How fabulous is this? She made this dress form on it! I love the glitter and how she put jewels on her! It is just the sweetest thing! I love it Jodie, Thanks so much! The best part of it all, is we will be meeting in November at Silver Bella! I cannot wait! I was thinking of Jodie all weekend, she lives in Louisiana, and I hope all is well for her and her family after Hurricane Gustav!

Next, I participated in another one on one swap with my local friend Kathy. The theme was "pink". I am so excited, she just started her own blog! It's called Kat Collects .....isn't that cute? I forgot to take pics of all the things I made for our swap, but if you go to her blog, she posted more pics. I did have a pic of this project I made for her though!

Bird cage

This was a really fun project. I picked up a broken birdcage at a garage sale and spray painted it pink (of course!) The bottom is a painted silver plated tray, and the birds rest in a stand made from an old lamp part painted with a teacup glued on top. Here is a closeup....
